Hot Days Require Cold Coffee

You can pay a lot of money for cold brew coffee. Or you can easily make your own. This is a concentrated version that you will find in my refrigerator 24/7/365. It is so simple, you will wonder why you've never done it before. I love a good coffee, but I use cheap already ground for this because I usually add a nice splosh of vanilla simple syrup to my iced coffee and it masks the cheap pretty effectively. You use what you want.

You will need:

A large pitcher (we use a plastic gallon jug)

8 oz ground coffee

7 oz cold water

Put the coffee in your pitcher, pour over the water and mix well.

Let it sit overnight and strain out the ground coffee. It will be mostly floating on top at this point, so I use a large slotted spoon to scoop most of it

out. Then I pour it through a large strainer, then I pour it again through a strainer that I've lined with coffee filters.

Frankly, the straining is the only tedious part of the process and you'll find what works for you.

Once it's all strained, pour into a clean container and store in your fridge.

Remember this is concentrated, so dilute with water, milk, cream and serve over ice. You can add a tablespoon of vanilla or other flavoring, but I just use flavored simple syrup.

For a real taste treat, add a shot to some horchata. We have a local shop that sells house made horchata in plastic bottles and is amazing. I just drink half of it, and then top it off with the cold brew. You must try this!

Other things I've used this concentrate for are: ice cream, coffee-sicles, and frappuccino.
